But that wasn't what Marie was talking about.
She was talking about towns having problems and so I provided details of a
city blighted by 50% red light jumping motorists which puts things into some
perspective.
The comment "motorists are often selfish and don't give cyclists the room
they need" goes some way to showing what the root cause of pavement cycling
is. Teach drivers to drive properly and considerately (and this does not mean
50% jumping red lights) and cyclists would feel safe to use the roads.
Treat the cause, not the symptoms.
The symptom is cyclists on footways, endangering pedestrians and other road users.
The cause is their being self-centredness.
