The race is called the Tour of Britain and there is no "track" which satisfies this description. What is it that causes the British?
English to be so conflict-minded. The start of the Tour of France in
Rotterdam was one of the best economic boosts for our town: the town
paid millions of Euros to get the Tour. This is the case with all
towns on its route. There are no protests (or very few) from local
business: it attracts thousands of visitors along its route.
When the Tour de France started in London in 2007 three million people turned out to watch it over the three days. Of course Mr Cheerless would have been whinging about loss of trade and closed roads but betwee one and two million people had a great day out and subsequent analysis found it generated £123m of business over the three days. Cheerless, Medi and PMS would probably assert everyone hates cyclists so much that three million people turned out to jeer them. Not that that seemed to be the case on the day or in the subsequent research for TfL which found a 60% satisfied/4% disatisfied rating and 50% of London attendees saying they would cycle more as a result.
So don't be fooled by the vocal minority here; they are not representative of the general British attitude, just that of a sad and powerless but vocal minority.
Tony
