"Thousands of bikers have riden through Wootton Bassett to honour the
people of the Wiltshire town and the soldiers killed in Afghanistan.

Each rider has paid £5 to take part, with the proceeds going to the
charity Afghan Heroes.

An estimated 15,000 bikers and pillion passengers congregated at
Hullavington Airfield in Wiltshire.

The first batch of 500 riders left at 1100 GMT to ride to Wootton
Basset via the M4 motorway.

The event lasted until early evening, with bikers leaving the airfield
at 30-minute intervals to make their way to Wootton Bassett.

About 10,000 riders registered to take part. They were accompanied by
some 5,000 pillion passengers..."

"...Ch Insp Owen Gillard of Wiltshire Police said the force was
working with the Ministry of Defence and Wiltshire Council to ensure
public safety, with police escorting the bikers and a helicopter at
the scene."

"Get out of my way you f*ing cyclist"

CRITICAL MASS IS A DELIBERATE ATTEMPT TO INCONVENIENCE OTHER ROAD
USERS BY SLOWING THE TRAFFIC TO A WALKING PACE OR 'RECLAIMING THE
STREETS AS YOU CALL IT'.

THE GROUPS OF PEOPLE WHO PARTICIPATED IN THIS MOTORCYCLE BORNE
FUNDRAISER WERE LED OUT AT 15 MINUTE INTERVALS, AND OUT ON THE OPEN
ROADS BETWEEN THE AIRBASE AND WOTTON BASSETT MOVED AT SPEEDS BETWEEN
20 AND 40MPH DEPENDING ON LOCATION AND WHAT ELSE IT MET ON THE ROADS.
THE GROUP SLOWED TO ABOUT 10MPH WHEN IN THE TOWN DUE TO THE VOLUME OF
PEOPLE LINING THE PAVEMENT WAIVING THEM THROUGH. THERE WERE 15 MINUTE
INTERVALS BETWEEN THE GROUPS LEAVING THE BASE AND THE TRAFFIC HELD UP
AT THE JUNCTIONS IN THE VILLAGES TO ALLOW THE GROUP TO STAY TOGETHER
WERE NOT MORE THAN A HANDFUL OF CARS. THE GROUPS WOULD HAVE PASSED BY
IN ABOUT 5 MINUTES AND HAVE LEFT THE AREA, SO NOT A DELIBERATE ATTEMPT
TO INCONVENIENCE OR DISRUPT THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC - UNLIKE THE CYCLISTS
ON A CRITICAL MASS MEETING.

UNLIKE THE PARTICIPANTS IN A CRITICAL MASS MEETING, MANY PARTICIPANTS
RIDING MOTORCYCLES IN THIS RIDE HAD TRAVELLED MANY MILES TO
PARTICIPATE AND HA DONE SO TO HELP RAISE FUNDS FOR OTHERS LESS
FORTUNATE THAN THEMSELVES.

PARTICIPATING IN CRITICAL MASS IS AN ENTIRELY SELFISH AND SPITEFUL ACT
TO MASSAGE ONES OWN EGO AND INCONVENIENCE OTHERS. YOU FEEL LIKE YOU
ARE STOOD ON THE MORAL HIGH GROUND WHEN YOU DO THIS, BUT I CAN ASSURE
YOU MANY PEOPLE WHO DO UNDERSTAND YOUR SELFISH AND SELF CENTRES
MOTIVES ARE REALLY JUST LOOKING DOWN ON YOU AND YOUR SAD ATTEMPT TO
EFFECT CAMERADERIE.

I WAS ONE OF THESE RIDERS AT WOOTTON BASSETT YESTERDAY AND AFTER
SEEING A CRITICAL MASS FIRST-HAND A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO FEEL AN
ATTEMPT TO COMPARE THE MOTIVES OF THE TWO ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS.
