helmets make injury worse.
I don't think anyone has said that.
I know that in some crashes a helmet will worsen the outcome - notably
those where the unhelmeted head brushes lightly past a solid object.
In those cases the extra size of a helmet would turn a light brush
into an impact, which the absence of a helmet avoids entirely.
This is not just speculation - I've had my hair parted by a tree stump
