Help please re bike rental idea

As some of you may know we run a Bed & Breakfast on IW. As part of our "Green" Policy we are looking into offering free bicycle rental to our guests.

We have sourced Mountain bikes form a reputable local bike shop - with helmets, slime in tyres, helmets, basic lights, mudguards. locks. The bikes will be serviced on a reg. basis and we will have safety/service check lists for before and after rental

Now what's the best way to safeguard ourselves in this ambulance chasing society? It's been suggested that we sell the customer the bike then buy it back from them when they return it. ...this could be done by pre authorising a credit/debit card. Which I suppose we'd be wise to do anyway ( even if not "selling" the bike) as this would cover us if the bike is damaged.

To start we are looking at buying 2 bikes

If anyone has any thoughts I'd be really grateful

Thanks
Jan
