You shouldn't need frou-frou dietary supplements for 70-mile days. Eat a
good meal the night before and before you start with plenty of
carbohydrate; take malt loaf or other nice food to eat en route.
A traditional fried breakfast is also good for a long day of riding.

I don't know. On the E2E I found it sat in the stomach like a vast lump of
meat, and got on much better with porridge, toast, and scrambled eggs.

Was it in CTC mag or Singletrack where the nutrition guy said basically a
fried breakfast was a really bad idea. Porridge, toast, eggs sounds pretty
much ideal. (though I'd get the fried one anyway :-) )

Nutrition guys tend to say what the latest trend is :-) Last time I
remember some articles on singletrack about nutrition (many years ago
now when I still posted there) it was clear that the author did not
know what he was talking about.

But there is a big difference between eating to maximise sustained
power output, and eating to sustain for a long day at a gentle pace.
I've never let my riding control what sort of food I should eat while
on tour - IMO that's entirely the wrong way to approach things!
