Ooh! I didn't know there were 10s! All I recall seeing were 25s and
50s and 100s.

10 miles is something I know I can do! Well, if the wind is not too
strong...

Do any of the clubs in SW London put on 10s?

Go to http://www.cyclingtimetrials.org.uk/index.asp

The course record on my local 10 mile circuit is 19:24 [1]. The fastest
I've done 10 miles in the last year is a tad under 35 minutes. Would I
be likely to make a complete fool of myself?

At least you will set a PB!

What's this thing about making a fool of self? The thing about doing a TT is that it's you against the clock. Now, not everyone can be as fast as The Hutch, so it's the ideal sport to do at your own level of ability. Them that wants to take it seriously and try to get ever faster, can do so. Those of us with fewer pretensions about our level of ability can do it to do the best *we* can or just to keep fit. On the New Year's Day event I did, I was second slowest. So what - I was just chuffed I wasn't last and had great fun doing the event. It was fun and friendly, I was cheered along. At the end, over a cup of tea, even some of the fast lads came over and congratulated me on my first open and offered tips and encouragement to do better as the season progresses. TTing can be a very, very friendly sport - that's my experience of it. So what if I'm not about to be picked for the World Champs, I'm having fun! :-)
