When/If I get back to work one of the things on the agenda is to have
the Galaxy repaired , reapainted ( balck and yellow like the Lemond?)
and upgraded. Anyone have any opinions/hints/tips/warnings on changing
it from downtube shifters to bar end?
No reason not to, modulo expense. I see a lot of fancy cable routing
options - I just have a straight loop from the shifter to the cable stops
on the downtube; the cable is not under the bar tape at all. You may spend
a week or so scrabbling at the cable stop and wondering what's going on
when trying to change gear.
My perception was that it was much more convenient, especially on the
tandem - it's quite heavy on the helm sometimes and I would not want to be
taking one hand off the bars constantly - and it also wants more frequent
gearshifts.
