I'm looking for suggestions for tyres to put on my cheapie MTB, for use on
streets and fairly smooth trails (loosish compressed shale type of
surfaces). Don't want to spend lots of cash, but would like good puncture
resistance. Not so bothered about longevity if it costs extra - usage will
only be occasional. Decent grip on the shaley surfaces would be more
valuable. In the main, however, I'm after something that rolls better on
tarmac than the knobblies.
Looked at the 26x1.5 'kevlar weave' hybrid jobbies in Halfords, which are 15
quid each. Are these any good, or is the kevlar bit just patter? Anything
else around that price? Indeed, is tyre weave the right thing to look at for
puncture resistance, or is it inner tubes? Both?
are you having problems with puntures? if thorns, nails try one of the
sealents like slimb and such.
any way schwalbe Marathon Plus are good rolling sturdy tires, the plus's
have a armor, my partner has them on her bike, i have the cheaper bog
standurd Marthons which are touch lighter, so far i haven't holed them.
we use the bikes on road where they roll well and through shaley park
paths, lower pressures will give more grip, high pressue better rolling
along.
both have a bit of grip so will cope with very mild off road, ie parks
not mountains.
