OT -- No cycling this w/e

Totally OT but I have just had a very short ride on a nice morning and for the rest of the w/e it is a combination of food prep and entertaining and it finishes Monday evening.
My Dad is 100 on Monday 2 April and today I have just put on a whole gammon to eventually be a honey glazed roast gammon -- that takes about 4 1/2 hours so meantime I am dry mixing pastry ready for a mammoth baking tomorrow. My sons and families arrive today and tomorrow and the first "hooley" is tomorrow evening when Dad is taking the whole assembled mob of about 40 souls from age 1 ( great great grandchildren) to 77) out to tea/dinner. (Tonight -- me, son no. 1, his wife and my grandson of 9 years are out for a curry!)
Monday is the official day with neighbours at dads flat in the morning ( and delivery of his telegram from the queen ), I believe that the local civic mayor is turning up too! The afternoon is a "running buffet" for anyone who arrives from 3 till 7 pm. I shall start baking at about 5 am!)
The telegram thingy is quite interesting. You apply about 3 weeks beforehand and then about a week before someone calls around to check that he is actually still alive! The telegram is already sitting in the village post office and will be delivered with due pomp and ceremony mid Monday morning.
I actually think it is quite an event and achievement and all the palaver is well earned. Dad has always been a self effacing, gentle man ( 2 words) and has never stopped working in some way and has been a huge benefit to local society.
Dad still lives alone and looks after himself with a fair bit of support from my brother and I. He goes out 3 times a week by car and taxi to his clubs and goes shopping every Friday at ASDA. He even still potters and keeps his small flower border in order.Yesterday at ASDA he was totally gob-smacked when he was met by the managers, a bevy of the staff that he knows -- a birthday cake and a bottle of scotch! It was arranged by a couple of the staff who dad talks to every week -- -- well done ladies and ASDA!
So --- sorry about spouting off on here but I am quite proud of my dad ( who I have known and loved for very nearly 70 years!). I suspect that I shall not survive that long -- but I would rather die pedalling my bike than sitting at home making scratch marks on the wall.
