maximum dosage is 2.4g per 24 hours in 3 or 4 doses.
Initial dose is usually 1.2 to 1.8g in 3 or 4 doses (after food)
may be increased but maintenance of 0.6g to 1.2g may be sufficient.
So two 400mg (prescription strength) tablets three times a day should be
considered a maximum.

Single dosage for analgesia/pain relief
Sustained dosage for relief of inflammation.

Beware of contraindications

If I was in that much pain, to be hitting that dosage I would be wanting a
doctor.

Personal anecdote: I have always found that one 400mg tablet worked
better/faster/longer than 2 200mg
tablets. If in severe pain then two 400mg tablets to numb everything, then
maybe another single tablet 12 hours later.

Thanks for that. I realised as soon as I hit send that I should have googled for it, but <python mode> I was in a hurry on my way to break my bath! ;)

It seems to fit with the dose I was given, but 2.4g in 24 hours is double what it says on my pack at home.
