That is /said/ about pretty much every form of energy generation
except coal fired power stations. It's certainly /said/ about wind
farms, nuclear power stations, etc. It's a convenient way of knocking
an energy technology you don't like.


It is, isn't it. I ought to get the figures.

Energy payback for wind and nuclear are more or less the same as for coal, taking less than 6 months of generation to offset the production. (on roughly remembered figures, wind takes 3 months to offset energy used, and another 3 months to offset the carbon dioxide produced making concrete, assuming it's replacing coal, but ICBW.)

For solar, it is in the region of 1-2 years of use.

Anyway, that claim is utter bollocks.
