Depends what your PhD is in! If it's in engineering, philosophy, or such then yes, it'd be safe. Maybe not, if it's in art.
A spot of critical thinking suggests that BSc. doesn't generally precede a PhD. in an arts subject, though granted I don't know for sure.
My BSc. (Hons) is in Geophysics (Geological) and my MSc. is in Remote Sensing and Image Processing Technology. I am employed by the NHS as a clinical scientist, and have been for over a decade. How's that?
I'm intrigued that you think a Doctorate in philosophy necessarily allows one to properly assess scientific literature. A friend did his philosophy PhD. in something like states of consciousness with particular reference to Buddhist beliefs. Is that /really/ a safe basis to assess statistical data properly? Or weren't you thinking too rigorously when you typed the above?
