That's hype, there was lots of "production" in that scene, and while Cruise
did a fair bit of the climbing himself, he was perfectly safe.
I can barefly watch Harold Lloyd climbing the building in "Safety
Last".
That on the other hand, was the real deal (mostly), and even more impressive
than it seems - Harold Lloyd had lost the thumb and index finger of his
right hand in an accident 4 years before he made that film. He wore a
prosthetic glove to disguise it.
I really can't imagine how you all can do it.
Its fun. (And you choose your own level of risk, so for most of us really
not that dangerous.)
