I have a worn passenger side engine mount and I suspect the dogbone mount (rear engine mount) may be worn as I'm getting aknock coming right from that area when reversing out of the drive and touching the brakes theres a clunk coming from the dogbone area.

I was just wondering swhat the process for changing the engine mount is.

jack up a solid part of the engine to take support of the engine and undo the bolts for mount remove, replace, (new bolts) , new mount on, torque up and lower engine, which should drop a bit but not onto the the floor :) ? job done.

And same for the sogbone mount ?

You didn't say what the car was.
But my Mk4 V5 had a knock from that area and it was a broken spring.
Told it was a common problem.

Baz.

DOh' its a mk4 golf 1.6s 16v 2001 model. AZD engine. (been a right old nightmare this car with faults, its like one after the other, but I'm sticking them out in hope that once I fix them all it will be back to a sweet car again, well for what it is :) )

Hmmm I'll have a look at the spring, thanks for the suggestion.

I have a passenger engine mount and dogbone mount which I suspect is worn on the bush part. If they fail to cure it I'm conceeding defeat and letting the garage sort it.

As so far I've changed the drivers side, anti roll bar bush, wishbone, ball joint, tie rod and tie rod end.

Next up are the mounts, and if that fails to cure I'm surely just chasing my tail.

Knowing my luck its something daft that my untrained eye has failed to spot.

I guess I could sit her all day changing suspected parts or just let the man who can, spot and fix it :)

I am starting to think I should have done the passenger wishbone, ball joint, and tie rod and tie rod end aswell when I did the drivers side. And anti roll bar bush.

Maybe if the mounts don't cure it. Maybe just pay for a diagnosis and then fix it from there. Although all the work on the front end I've done should see the car right for a long while till it dies.

.....I should explain the symptons more.

Basically when you drive forward, brake *clunk* kind of feels like metal knocking on something else metal no grinding or anything just a metal knocking on something metal.

Also when I reverse brake clonk again. SO basically when you brake and the force goes the other way something is going clonk.

hmmmm....

I'm also going to check the calipers are done all tight.

Just at a loss at what else it could be
