It's the truth. I'm sorry you had to hear it like this.
No... I'm sorry you have to hear it like this:
You don't like diesels... fair enough, we all have our crosses to
bear, but opinion never really did offer more substance than fact, and
usenet is awash with far more of the former than the latter.
I don't like diesels but there are a few I'd own. None that I'd use for 25k
miles a year though. They're not good enough for that yet.
Yes, big petrol / LPG barges are nice... if that's what you want.
If it is, go ahead, buy one.
I'm thinking about it right now. There's a good chance I'll be bringing a
big Mercedes back from Devon on Thursday, as it happens. Unfortunately it's
an ML but I'll be looking out for an S500 when I get back from Czech in a
few weeks.
But don't slag everything else off that falls into your personal
'black book of hate' just because *you* don't happen to like it, (and
as a by-product you appear at times to be attempting to belittle
anothers opinion or statement of fact as a result), or when you tried
one you felt it wasn't for you.
I haven't slagged anything off. I've compared repmobiles to luxury cars
because that was where the topic ended up. The diesel repmobiles are bound
to lose. I just stated why I would never use one for 25k miles a year and
why I don't understand people who do.
I've personally had loads of VAG TDis as you know... *I* personally
like them and have found them to be a good buy.
I know you like them and if that's what you're happy with then I have no
problem with it. This does not mean that I'll be recommending them to
people. If someone asks for an honest opinion from me that is exactly what
they get.
I accept they're not everyone's cup of tea, but I can respect the fact
that others may prefer something else, or that something else might
meet the requirements of whoever, better.
As can I. Doki has an option to use a company car or to buy a vehicle. The
question was about LPG barges. I suggested that I'd much rather have a
large, quality LPG barge than something built for reps.
My two'penneth regarding an S500... they're cheap for a reason.
Dear to insure, juicy (even on LPG), 8 (or is it 12) plugs to change
when you service them, and a whole host of toys to go expensively
wrong in old age.
8 plugs which only need changing every 36k miles or so. (The 600 is the
V12), not hugely juicy for the performance. Cheap to run on LPG and most of
the gadgets tend to work on them. They were £80-90k new, built up to a
standard not down to a price. Mercedes S class cars were not built to keep
some acrylic shirted accountant in Luton happy. They were built to be the
best cars in the world, to be better than a Bentley.
They never appeared on a user-chooser list next to a Vectra Envoy Diesel.
That, and there seems to be plenty of ropey ones out there with more
than the odd spot of rot forming, rear screens that have gone cloudy
due to a breakdown in the double glazing unit and then there's the
image problem - do I really want to be viewed as some sort of Nigerian
scam artist / pimp residing in deepest Hackney?
I'm not unfortunate enough to live down South, so I don't know of these
Nigerians of whom you speak.
