It had a whole 8mb of ram - when ram was 30 quid a meg and a quite colossal 250 mb hard drive.
Double speed CD rom as well IIRC and an unbelievably grandiose 1mb of video ram as well.
Anyway - 2500 pounds it cost him
Yep, and the first computer I used was a Triumph Adler Bitsy, which cost £14,000 in 1980/81 (not sure on the exact date), and the first 'real' computer I owned was an Apple Lisa. Which was... expensive.
First computer I bought myself was in 1989, an Apple Mac IIx with 13" display, grey imported so it only cost £2,500 or so instead of £4,000.
And now I baulk at spending £1000 or so on an a new iMac!
(But, my studio Mac system is getting madder, with dual 20" Apple LCDs on a Korg Trinity Pro X - all aluminium. Looks stunning. And I think I'm finally going to record something - I did a multitrack so got some understanding of Logic - which always throws me - and an Antares AVP, so my confidence in my vocals is better (I found if I sing in the same range as Nick Cave, I'm fine, but my pop-range is a semitone out)).
