You do realise that if you have nitrous that there is now two problems.
1. Your turbo (if it boosts at all) is now restrictive as buggery at max
power? It restrict what you can get hugely.
2. A big (BIG) turbo will make full boost at ANY rpm if you use nitrous
to produce the exhaust gas? And zero without it!
Yes I am aware of both of these... Turbo and manifold are the next things
to do, but probably for next year now.. I shall make a measurement of the
turbo back pressure soon just to see just how restrictive it is being. Im
not going to go for as large turbo as you suggest. Something that is good
for around 250bhp (GT25R) and if thats not enough ill try a GT28R, later
on..
3. To make serious power you need to open wallet fit HUGE turbo? You
will get big power improvement at same boost. But it wont boost without
nitrous!
Replied above :P
Even if you fitted say a T4 sized unit it restricts your top end slightly
on nitrous, with no lag low down?
Remember your talking about a 930cc car engine here that has a rev limit
for now of 7K.
Yes, but I have fitted and run T4s on 1100 bike engines (air cooled, draw
through, and no intercooler!) and they boost at about 7k. Even a T4 on a
bike engine is a bit restrictive with say a hundred of nitrous. And zero
lag! They go like f*~k from the second you touch full throttle and up to
two bar boost, on pump fuel. These are typically making 300 without nitrous
and 400 to 450 with it.
Your motor is pretty similar but stronger with heavier castings etc so heat
and distortion shouldnt be an issue.
I would forget the supercharger if you just want power! Nitrous alone will
give you much more and safer without detonation at the low end! Some of the
turbo 1300 bikes that are a bit more modern and higher reving/fuel injected
etc (hyabusas etc) are now doing 500/550 bhp with turbos alone! Thats
around 450bhp per litre!
And without nitrous it wont boost at all? With it you can have FULL
boost at say 1000 rpm in about 1/10th sec? And that the boost can turn
off the nitrous (and now its self sustaining) with a cheap switch?
I have mapped my n2o into my ECU. Its not controlled by a switch ;) It
also changes over from a 'road map' to a 'n2o' map with different ignition
and fuel curves...
Good because the more power you want the richer and more retarded you need
to go to stop detonation and heat, caused by high peak cylinder pressures.
Ask trev. He knows me, kind ov loves/hates me, but never argues much
because I generally win!
You may want to mind the door on the way out haha..
I like trev, and respect his experience, he respects me too. He actually
uses me to discuss and brainstorm stuff! Although he probably wont admit
it!
Anyway have fun! And remember trev is very careful - if he suggests 25
bhp extra I would probably double that and move up from there. He has a
"safe" business to run.
Yes of course...!
Just dont tell trev! He hated it when I started doing my own stuff, and
building nitrous systems!
