I reckon you should just hire a few of the alien machines from War of
the Worlds, wander about in it looking for anyone driving a diesel pluck
out the driver and feed 'em through the shreddy thing.
Won't make any more fuel, but it'd make the world a better place.
Petrol. Not gasahol, not ethanol, not brown gas, not diesel, but petrol.
Real, tyre shredding petrol. To use in unaltered vehicles.
Now I love the idea of that. Hmm.
Christian College in the bible belt of the US for their farm vehicles,
but they did show a petrol mower running on the straight process from
refining, and a tractor running normal BioDiesel made from the
transestrified oil, then again running what they call "Green" diesel
made from the refined oil.
Other strains make good ethanol for octane boosting, and others make
excellent oils for bio production.
And as I've said, they use waste land, with waste water, using waste
polluted industrial exhaust to supercharge the algae production.
There is an experminental diesel thing going on in Prague.
The local government and university is working together.
The local bin men collect the rubbish and it is incinerated.
Instead polluting the air though, the exhaust from the burner is fed
through an Algae tube farm. The water is provided from the effluent from
a local factory. The left over air that comes out after the farm is
cleaner than a lot of the local air. The Algae is used to make biodiesel
which runs the garbage trucks and some of the local taxis, the trucks
pick up more crap and the cycle restarts. The incinerator residue is
used in building blocks, road bases and as fertiliser depending on what
they are burning that day. What is leftover is landfilled still, but it
is far less than it would have been had it not been burned.
