message news:ftd3qd$igj$1@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxI'm considering buying a Daihatsu HiJet 1.2D, just because I
can and it would be handy for carrying stuff when the need
arose. Insuring the beastie though... Do they really have to be
insured as a commercial vehicle even though I have no intention
of using it for commercial purposes? Confused doesn't recognise
it as a car but they have a seperate site for vans which does
and quotes £150 TPFT. This seems high compared to what a 1.2
diesel car would cost, so why? Although it's hardly a fortune
I'd obviously prefer it to be lower if possible.
I would consider £150 to be fairly low.
My Berlingo 600 diesel is £137 TPFT.
Insured private domestic and pleasure.

Ok, ta. I think it's because although I have full car NCB it specifically asked if I had any for this particular vehicle, which I've not, of course.
AFAIK most insurance Co's only allow NCD on one policy at a time.
Take out a new policy and although they might take your existing NCD into account, many may only give you two years discount, even if you have the maximum on your first policy.
A bit unfair IMO, as if the cover for both is 'driver only', their risk is not really any greater with the second vehicle.
