I find it difficult to believe that someone old enough to drive a car
doesn't know the difference. You must have seen brakes and braking
written often enough in garages, magazines, newspapers etc.
How about 'Free brake test' offers from garages or tyre and exhaust
fitting places?

There was no ambiguity in the
original context about what the OP was referring to. Whilst they may
have over-reacted slightly to your constructive criticism, it doesn't
take a huge stretch of the imagination to see how it could be construed
as an irrelevant ad hominem attack.

Only by someone who can't take criticism in any form without feeling
diminished by it.

As far as my 'breaking braking' comment was concerned, there was no
malice behind it. You chose to make an issue of it by defending the
indefensible, so don't complain because you get some stick?

Do you suffer from dyslexia then. If you do, why not say so?.

Why should they? Would it make a difference to your stance? If people
with a learning disability can be excused poor written English, then
everyone about whom you have no background information should be.

On the whole I am very tolerant of spelling and grammar mistakes. I have
to be because I've no doubt my own grammar is not beyond criticism, and I
know I do make the occasional spelling mistake. I also don't take issue
with those that top post in n/g's.
But, using break instead of brake doesn't come into any of the above
categories.
It's not a spelling mistake or one of grammar. They are two different
words with totally different meanings, which are pronounced the same, but
someone with almost any degree of literacy, should know that they are not
spelled the same. Especially a car owner, who has good reasons to be aware
of that fact.
