My air condition stopped working. Both the switches in the car- one with
the snow flake and the other switch do not light up. Called out an
excellent and reliable mobile air con. technician. Used him several times
before,He checked the system: not fuses -system full of gas- pressure
good- not the pressure switch not either of the switches in the car-
unable to diagnose the fault.
Advised me to take it to the Vauxhall dealer because it might be a car
management fault. He says they will attach it to some kind of a computer
to show up the likely fault.
I am puzzled by this. Any idea what would cause this ? and can the
diagnosis be costly ?
Advice much appreciated

The ecm on your model will record and display some air con faults, it may
even put the MIL lamp on.

So yes, a dealer or indeed most garages can read the fault codes, you can
even do it yourself if you are handy.

A dealer would probably charge 40 quid upwards to read the codes and more to
fix it.

There are about 6 fuses involved and umpteen relays, plus loads of sensors
on one of those.

Most common fault on a vextra is loss of gas due to cracked pipes.

What pressure did the mechanic find (in bar or psi) ?

Thanks for your guidance Mrcheerful. No it was not a loss of gas he was certain of that although I am not sure what pressure he found. He said there was more than adequate pressure. You talk about reading the codes .. What equipment is required for this ? I was told that it is specialist piece of equipment( like a mini computer) that mainly dealers have ?
