Hi all,
i have recently bought an N reg rover 416si and the clutch, or i
presume it is the clutch, is making a whining noise in second and
third gear, it has also become difficult to change gear and sometimes
slips out of third all on its own.
does any one know if the clutch on this is likely to be a self
adjusting one or would it have to be done manually? it all sounds
like it is doing what it is supposed to, apart from this whining.
i know it had a new clutch kit fitted for its MOT in February but the
person i bought it off doesnt know what type it was.
any suggestions?
Sounds like a duff gearbox to me, which is bad news. Bad clutches
don't usually whine during driving, though a noise when depressing the
clutch pedal could be a worn clutch release bearing. Nor do bad
clutches tend to make the box jump out of gear.

Is there any oil in the gearbox? Sounds like there may not be.
