Hi
I thought I would let you know the fix for the low rev misfire on my LPG
Passat. The car has a Necam EGI system fitted. I took the car to BPV in
slough where Barry seemed to know what he was talking about. The problem was
dirt in the lpg distributor. The distributor has a stepper motor on top and
four pipes out to each cylinder which has a dumb injector/valve thingy. I'm
told a piston inside the distributor moves up and down, there are 4 slots in
the cylinder the piston moves in that are gradually uncovered by the piston
moving up. Part way up the slots get wider but down the bottom they are
realy thin - only a couple of thou. These were a bit clogged up on a couple
of the slots, the result would be that a couple of cylinders would run weak
and the others would run rich as the lambda sensor only gives an average
reading. As you open up the throttle a bit the piston moves up and the slots
open up so the mismatch of mixtures doesn't happen so much. Anyway it runs
really smoothly now. Shame I've replaced all of the ignition components when
I probably didn't need to.
regards
Steve
