Re: pushing/pulling caravan into drive help please

We really need to get to grips with this ourselves, the incline is not really great, its just a case of working out easiest way and so I am asking here as no doubt many have got the knack :-)

A motormover type would do it, though maybe a bit too expensive OTT for your needs. Alternatively, if the slope is not too great, a Hitchdrive will give you the sort of control you need to gently ease it out and back in. Like a jockey wheel, but with a manual handle to crank the wheel around.

You could also use the leverage at the tow ball. If you have the width, you could move it slowly and with better control on a slope by the use of chocks. Put a chock (2 needed) on the downhill side of each wheel, then have someone move one chock down the slope whilst you steady the hitch as it roll forward and sideways a little. Repeat the process with the other chock ad infinitum zig zagging down until you are at the bottom of the slope. Works equally well going up, though more energy needed.

Another method would be to take a couple of turns of rope around a fixed object like a tree, of even a scaffold pole set in a suitable hole in your drive, attach other end to rear of caravan and gently pay out the rope.

You can buy winches for about £20 on Ebay able to lift a ton, they make easy work of pulling up or lowering a caravan up or down a slope - I use one myself. Hole drilled in concrete of drive, into which I drop a scaffold pole with a winch on top.
