I've been having this weird issue recently, and I'm trying to figure
the cause out. I figured I'd start here, and the "should you leave
knackered" thread got me thinking.

After my workouts, I generally don't feel anything. Whilst working
out, I can do two of my three sets without much issue, but when it
comes to the third set, I usually fail really quick. I usually leave
a minute or so between sets. When I hit the third set, I'll get 2 or
3 reps in, and feel my muscles go from "ok" to "dead", forcing me to
have to stop. This is what I'd consider training to failure, however,
give it another 30 seconds or so, and I feel like I've not been in
the gym at all, and my muscles are fine again, and I can go do
another 2 more sets without issues.

Unless you are training for muscular endurance, you need to leave longer
between sets [3-4 mins is optimal]. If I'm doing 2 warm-up sets and 3 work
sets I will leave one minute after the first warm-up set, two minutes after
the second warm-up set, and then at least three minutes between work sets. I
never leave the gym feeling like I could have done more :) !


This seems to affect my biceps, and chest more than any other muscle
group. Yes, I know, this could just show I'm weak but I never used to
have this issue until recently.

I had a similar issue after cardio the other night. I did about 20
miles on the bike, in about 30 minutes, when I got off, I felt like I
was about to fall over, my legs were gone, but by the time I got to my
car, I felt like I could do it all again.

Good, recovery is an excellent measure of fitness!
