Seriously - I know that it happens all the time, but I was hoping... and they hardly bothered with my meal worms,

leaving them for visitors with a more distant nest.
I think that the Biggs recorded a major break in the middle of clutch
laying (but I don't remember what species that was). This could distort
expectations of hatching time.
I remember that one, and understand that the process can be put on hold when
conditions aren't favourable, but in this case there were no breaks. The
four eggs were laid on consecutive mornings and followed immediately by
'normal' incubation behaviour with no long gaps, which means that the eggs
should have developed. While I haven't been keeping tabs on the weather as
much as usual recently it hasn't been particularly cold at any time during
this period.
"My" robins are running a shuttle service to fledged chicks with the
mealworms that I put out. The bluetit pair that I expect to start laying
in my other box soon have plenty of opportunity to see what is going on
and help themselves too, but they concentrate on new leaf buds (which I
applaud!) and the nut feeder.
With the Blue Tit nesting season well under way, I'm wondering if the bird
that roosts in one of my House Martin nests could be a male.
