Many modern PCs are practically silent powered up, but at rest. Put them
in an air-conditioned room and let them be idle or do minmal tasks like
word processing, and they run very quietly.
Now that the weather has warmed up, I've found that several of my
computer's fans get kicked into mid-roar when the ambient temperature
gets into the 80s.
Then fire up some heavy audio or worse yet, video editing. There's a
good possibility that the quiet little mouse has transformed itself
into the indoors equivalent of a Saturn rocket, mid-launch. ;-)
Admittedly, this is better than the machines that roared when just
powered-up, whether they were working hard or not.
What you need is a separate apparatus room - like TV and recording studios
etc have used for many a year. Usually on its own aircon circuit and
insulated sound wise from the main area. Not too difficult to do at home -
the computer doesn't have to be in the same room.
