Indeed you do, which is why I find your refusal to refer to A and B gauge
so odd. "GPO" is fairly meaningless as all styles of 1/4" jack plugs were
originally telephone switchboard plugs, likewise TRS clearly refers to any
type of three-pole jack plug.

Well. It seems to be common practice to use ther term"GPO" when
referring to the old patch bay style, and TRS for quarter inch. Many
patchbay jacks these days are TRS bantam.
