Yes. That seems to be standard pro terminology in the EBU region,
Dave. So, when you ask for a "cable - jack to jack " (to connect
a guitar to an amp) you expect to be brought a cable with a jack
*plug* at both ends:-)
No wonder there is so much confusion, when your usage is 180 degrees out of
phase with the original usage, which is still used in the US. I've just been
reading the instruction booklet for a Bluray player, every socket on the
back (including the optical SPDIF connector) is referred to as a "jack".
Indeed, there are only two types of jack TRS and TS,
2-pole and 3-pole, where did this "TRS" stuff come from?
both in-line.
The old PO jack used frequently at one time in studios and broadcast
is just a variant of this topology.
That's putting it back-to-front. All 1/4" plugs were originally designed for
telephone exchange use. More recent smaller gauges are a variant on those.
