Got an Olympus VN-2100PC and it's ok in good conditions but struggles with hiss and background noise.

Is there the ubiquitous nice bit of freeware that will suck it in and spit it out as if it was recorded in an eggbox lined room?

File is mono .wav at 22050Hz 32 bit float

Cheers..

I use the noise reduction feature in Cool Edit Pro.

Graham.

I am a licensed user of Cool Edit 2000 and have been for many years. When I purchased it originally the license was about $20. Cool Edit 2000 worked perfectly under Windows XP and is definitely the best audio editor I have used - and I have tried most of them!

When I upgraded to Vista I had problems with Cool Edit 2000. Now some time has passed, and Vista has had many updates, Cool Edit 2000 works acceptably well - although there are still a few display artifacts etc.

In 2003 Syntrillium, the publisher of Cool Edit, was acquired by Adobe. Adobe then eventually marketed a modified version of Cool Edit Pro as Audio Audition. I tried Adobe Audition and hated it! It was bloated and extremely unfriendly. The elegance of the original Cool Edit 2000 had been totally lost.

I did not know the original version of Cool Edit Pro (the multichannel version of Cool Edit 2000) was still available until I saw Grahams post. I have downloaded the trial version from the link above and it seems to work, and seems to have the look and feel of the original. I would very much like to get hold of the ORIGINAL Cool Edit Pro (because it appears to be more compatible with Vista than Cool Edit 2000) but when the 'Buy Now' is clicked you are routed to the Adobe website and invited to buy Adobe Audition... - and the price it $299 !!!!

Do you have any idea how I can get the original Cool Edit Pro for a sensible price. I don't want anything to do with Adobe!!!
