I've just built an RIAA stage for my homebuilt amp (http://www.brahms.demon.co.uk/software/electronics/ecl82_1/index.html). I'm now wanting a decent stylus / turntable. The trouble is I'm not working at the moment so am on a tight budget!
Currently I have:
A Garrard AP76 turntable with Goldring G800/G850 cartridge (can't tell which!)
A Beogram (something or other) with a missing stylus/cartride
As I say I'm on a tight budget! I've not bought any turntable stuff for years so have no idea at all at all!
(BTW the G800 sounds fine, spent a while finding it in the meantime listening to some horrid sanyo clone thing, the difference is amazing, but would like something better!)
The AP76 isn't bad (I've had it for donkeys from an ex-Yorkshire TV engineer) but it is a bit rumbly.
The beogram would be great but where can I get reasonably priced stylii - having never listened to it is it likely to be a huge improvement over the Garrard?
I'm not an "audiophile" in the spend £10000 for a last 0.01% improvement but am sick of listening to crap!
Sorry for the length of the post?
Any help greatly appreciated.
Take II - you can have my Project 2 for 25 quid if you want. If really skint have an old direct drive Sansui sr-525 for a tenner. Can prob find a cartridge for them.
I used to have an AP76. It's a BSR autochanger with go-faster stripes. .
