Well, I will be attempting to make my own mind up about that. As I said, I
was surprised that the cheap 'DAB adaptor' gave rather better results than
I'd feared with R3, so felt it was worth trying a 701ES. If nothing else,
it will be interesting to see if it sounds the same as the cheap adaptor,
and try to compare them in various ways.
I also intend to use the RX as the basis for some measurements. So even if
I am dissapointed with the sound on R3 it will be useful.

As has been pointed out, this is an 'audio' group not a 'hi fi' one. ;->
However I have the usual academic tendency to wish to investigate and try
things like this for myself.
For example, one result of spending time listening to R3 on DTTV and
comparing it with FM is that I have become more aware of the effects of
level compression and HF intermod on the FM broadcasts. So that comparison
has been interesting for those reasons if for no other. Similarly of
interest to compare proms on DTTV/FM R3 with DTTV BBC TV4...
Some people like to collect valve amps and compare them. I like to
experiment with things like the above and listen and make measurements, and
try to form my own views. Who knows, perhaps I will find some interesting
or unexpected results. Or perhaps not. But the way to discover is to
explore...
Slainte,
Jim
