I really can't think how this could make any difference unless there was
something wrong that this un-intentionally put right!.

I work a lot with balanced equipment at digital AES/EBU connects and
really there're there just to make connection over some distances
possible, without having to worry about hum and noise pick up.

As Dave Plowman said, its all converted to unbalanced in the
equipment!....
