i went to try and fix my jewel light, was not possible to open it
without breaking it. The top and bottom are press sealed or glued,
and trying to pull the two apart or slide something sharp down the
join just didnt work.

In all fairness to Juwel I think it's EU safety guidelines that mean the
unit with main power has to be sealed. It is a nuisance, and as mine is
now coming up for 5 years old I'm dreading having to buy a new hood.

Could be .I bought something recently and the instructions said that
the mains lead could not be replaced and a new unit would need to be
bought .I think it said this in the instructions for an Eheim Aquaball
filter .
