I think they'd be in effect extending the Bedford services to Leicester.
So not a huge change.

But would the Bedford services have the capacity for all those extra
pax?

They'd all be 12-car, I presume. There would still be 5-6tph fast services from the four platforms at StPancras to Leicester (and various places beyond).
