If Charlie dislikes funny-shaped buildings, then he must //hate// plances like King's Cross (looks like a factory..), St. Pancras (where the train-shed is a dead ringer for some shipyards..) or Waterloo (looks like a market..).
Those shapes have a clear structural purpose, so they are not 'funny-shaped'. The current trend seems to be to make buildings look as strange as possible for no other reason than vanity on the part of the architect, just because they can (thanks to computers I suppose) despite the impracticality of curved walls from the point of view of the building's occupants. Holden's circular booking hall at Southgate excepted, since it's reasoning is clear.
I'm not that crazy about 'gothic revival' buildings like the John Rylands Library, come to that ...
