So whilst you can still enter <http://www.traintimes.org.uk> in your
address bar, you'll actually get redirected to its new temporary home
on his <dracos.co.uk> domain. This isn't a long term solution though,
as ATOC can just start blocking the new domain too.
Forgive my ignorance, but how do ATOC block a website? Have they got
a lot more power than I thought.
It was a shorthand way of describing what they're doing - blocking
access to the NRE site from an IP address or range of IP addresses.
They could perhaps try and block access to whatever computer is
trying to access the data, but that is a fool's errand as the
location requests appear to come from can be changed more quickly
than the blocking can be set up.
That depends if someone (i.e. Mr Somerville, who runs the unofficial
site) would really be willing to play cat and mouse over this. I'd
suggest he was happier with the previous understanding whereby NRE/
ATOC "allowed the site to persist" (his words).
Funneling the crawler via something like tor could work, if only atoc,
and TFL for that matter, were like bart (http://www.bart.gov/schedules/
developers/)
