Also, currently Network Rail is rolling out GSM-R nationwide and GSM-R
is the transport for ERMTS so whats the big deal when were already
investing in the radio network.
There is also the reason that in the current deployment of ETCS in
various countries on the continent (Switzerland, Italy, Belgium,
Netherlands), locomotives from different vendors did not really work
well with certain line implementations of ETCS from other vendors.
Slight differences in levels of the standard cause incompatibilites.
The system still needs some more work. So, if Britain wants to take
part in this development by practical tests -- be welcome.
