You didn't look when I showed the statistics from e.g. DB
Fernverkehr?

but people go about "personal business"
(which is other than shopping and watching football matches).

That may be a different use of the term "business" as it used in the
German language, where it is strictly business, like for selling and
buying.

But in that perspective, it is also "my personal business" if I go
to watch a football match or go shopping. It is reduced to the meaning
of "purpose", as opposed to travel when the way is the goal, like for
a railway fan...
