Indeed... or on segregated Busways as in Runcorn, or even on guided busways

In principle, this works OK, but in practice you need to either knock
down a lot of houses, use tunnels, or use the existing road
corridors. The first would be politically dangerous, the second
insanely expensive, and the third gets you back where we are now.
