It's also becoming more common to list other possible allergens, most
products now advise of wheat/dairy/gluten content/contamination
because of the increasing numbers of people who suffer a reaction to
those products, also some less common ones too. Did you know that so
called 'pure' orange juice often contains shellac? No, nor me.

The 'freshly squeezed' stuff or the 'from concentrate' stuff?

The freshly squeezed variety, think of products like Tropicana
(although strangely, not Tropicana) and you are on the right lines. It
is used as a glaze on the skin sometimes, particularly on fruit
originating in South America, and it's impossible to guarantee that no
part of the skin will get into the finished product, particularly if
the juice contains pulp, rather than smooth or non-pulp juice. It's
not confined to oranges either, amother common use is on apples.
Vegeterians and vegans may wish to note that shellac is an animal
derivative, therefore fruit coated in it is not strictly vegeterian.
Shellac can produce an allergic reaction, though generally, it's a
contact allergy rather than an ingestion allergy.

For some reason in the juices made from concentrate, it's much less
common to find shellac. I believe it has something to do with the
process of dehydration, but I'm not completely sure.
