If you go down to the woods today II

Sorry, didn't realise that someone (Fred) had kept posting to this thread further up. Don't want him to miss my reply, so am moving it down in the hope that he will see it.
The route of the tramway to Denton pit is still clear to see if you know where to look. I read that the last physical remains of it - the sleepers - were ripped up at the end of WWII to burn during the celebrations. Loads of information and up to date pics can be found at http://www.pittdixon.go-plus.net/denton-colliery-tramway/denton-colliery-tramway.htm
I also think that remains of the Beat Bank Canal branch are visible, but with a much more trained eye, I imagine. Some of it was never built, some of it was destroyed when the motorway was built, and some of it has been altered by the erosion of the River Tame. I might actually go have a look later today, weather permitting (Which isn't looking like it is going to permit!).
Hulmes Pit was apparently excavated in the early 1970s and the colliery reservoir dug out and left as a pond (Now largely overgrown again). There must be lots of information in the local history library about what they found. I must go down because, as it stands, it is really difficult to know what you are looking at. The foundations are quite substantial and full of nooks and crannies where bits of machinery must have sat, mostly carved out of solid blocks of stone. I have placed a few more pics of it on my site with more detail.
