Hmmm... And let's just say that the problem existed more than exactly
1 year ago, when this whole credit crunch thing started... Which it
did.

The banks were happily giving out 4x mortgages 18 months ago - even
the real ones, nevermind the subprime comedians who were doing 6x
multples - and even for people on medium incomes. While you wouldn't
quite have got the 3-bed house for that, it would easily bought you
the 2-bed flat. Unless you've got a dodgy credit history, I'm
completely at a loss why you were having problems here.

As goes the sponsorship of a football team, I don't give a damn about
agreements made when NR were a private company, whether it was a
deliberate decision or not . I repeat, using taxpayers money in this
way is an utter disgrace and should have been stopped the moment that
the Government stepped in.

Northern Rock entered into a contract with Newcastle United; the
government purchased Northern Rock's assets and liabilities; therefore
the government is legally obliged to pay Newcastle United whether it
likes it or not. I prefer my governments to obey the rule of law.

Presumably then you will be ok with Blair et al being dragged into
court for war crimes?

Yes in theory, although I'm sceptical that Iraq was provably, actually
illegal (rather than just Bloody Stupid).

How do you feel knowing that your hard
earned tax £'s are going towards paying the wages of a thug like Joey
Barton, yes the Newcastle United player who has just been released
from her maj's pleasure for kicking the holy snot out of some scouse
kid outside Maccy D's in Liverpool?

Can't say it really bothers me, although I was pleased to see Barton
go down this time.

And you got the audacity to call me an idiot. I would say you are an
idiot with too much spare money, or perhaps a liar with no sense of
common decency.

I think Joey Barton should be punished for his crimes and that his
wealth and fame should not stand in the way of his punishment. I don't
think he should be stripped of his livelihood once he's served his
sentence, just as I don't think that a welder who beats the crap out
of somebody should be banned from welding.

Either way, try spare a thought for those of us that
didn't make it as far up the money tree as yourself. By the way,
before you go down the 'oh you're only jealous' road, I envy your
money slightly less than I do you attitude. That will be not in the
slightest

Bleh. The only reason I mentioned higher rate tax is that I know I pay
tax than most people, and it's still not very much.

(BTW, I live in central London. If I get a substantial pay rise and
property prices fall another 5-10%, I might just about be able to
afford to buy a 2-bed flat. My heart is therefore not entirely
bleeding...)
