A time-traveller to Stockport before the arrival of the car
would struggle to describe it as an 'eco-town' with dozens
of factory chimneys, not to mention steam locos, belching
out filthy smoke into the atmosphere...
True, I suspect he has confused problems associated with the
industrial revolution and the number one source of urban air pollution
in the modern de-industrialised economies of today, or maybe he's
thinking of China and India's astonishingly rapid addiction to the car?
