The owner of a cycle stolen from a cycle shed at Portsmouth & Southsea
station, covered by a CCTV camera, has been told by the BTP they don't
have the time to study the video recording to get a visual image of
the thief.

The owner left his 250GBP bike there overnight, secured by two bike
locks, but the BTP will only view video evidence of "minor" crimes if
they are given less than a nine hour timeframe for the incident.

The BTP offered to make the recording available to the cycle owner if
he wished to come in and view it himself.

A newspaper report of this extraordinary response is here:

I'm gobsmacked the police can't view half-hourly "snapshots" of the
shed to ascertain an approximate time for the theft, and then view
that half-hour in fast forward mode to locate the actual footage. This
should take no more than 30 minutes of their time!

Whilst its annoying that the BTP don't have the time to view the video
what's stopping the cycle owner taking up the BTP offer and viewing the
footage themselves. If they're so keen to have the thief apprehended for the
theft of their property they should be more than willing to do it. I know I
would.
