I have not seen an RPI on Southern metro services in the 7 months I've
been using them on a daily basis - smarter commuters know they can
travel to Battersea Park for free, then walk across the bridge into

I have been at selhurst now for 6 years and I nearly had my first ever
check on a "metro" service on the 14.47 East Croydon to Selhurst
(thats my commute now !) This was howver by the "Meteor" security team
rather than "proper" inspectors. In fairness they seemed pretty clued
up as they saw the stream of amazed punters moving forward and decided
to follow them rather than check the honest people in my coach so I
still await my first proper check. My wife does a "proper" commute to
Victoria every weekday and her record stands at 8 years unchecked on
"Metro" trains.
We do occasionally see "blocks" at Selhurst which are quite fun to
watch as they tend to plain clothes staff located on each platform
ready to leap on those that decide going back to Thornton Heath is the
cheaper option. Ii is certainly fun to see the attendees of the "Brit
School" desperately begging for money from their fellow students.
As with most blocks it is always annoying when I see them packing up
at 18.30 - 19.00 when I pick the wife up.
