The point of my comment is that the majority of the current Argentine
population is not Spanish in origin but Italian who have the Spanish
language 'imposed' on them.

But you weren't the one pontificating about the Spanish in Argentina :-)

The classic description of the Argentines is that they are Italians who speak
Spanish and think they are French! The last bit is a reference to their
pretensions to being the style capital of South America. Also Buenos Aires
has a lot of late 19th Century French architecture.
