It is time to let go of
colonialist dreams of conquering foreign lands and then becoming upset
when there is a rebellion of the unwashed masses of this planet
against it.
And this applies to the Falkland Islands how exaclty? A previously
uninhabited archipelago that one ex- European colony believes it has a
right to over a different Ex- European colonial power?
No robber has a right over the other, even if England turned out the
more powerful robber. Neither European power has any right to
intervene in Argentinian affairs whatsoever.
The Malvinas Islands were robbed from independent Argentina as part
of replacing Spain as the main colonial, or rather neo-colonial power,
with a series of armed invasions in the early 19th century.
I thought the appropriate way to determine the government and
sovereignty of a place was by reference to all the people who live
there, rather than by looking at events of 200 years ago. The people
who currently live there are overwhelmingly British, and wish to remain so.
I wonder why someone with as much hostility and bitterness towards the
United Kingdom as Luko appears to have is bothering to post to a uk.*
newsgroup. Other than to annoy and irritate, that is.
