It would never occur to me to pronounce Wrexham other than as Reksam,
and certainly not with an 'h'. Is that a Scottish thing, maybe?
Dunno - it won't be a thing many Scots have to worry about. The -ham
ending is Anglo-Saxon, and even in Dumfries & Galloway, which had
Anglians resident, such place names are rare. I can only find an a
Kirkpatrick Durham and an Edingham, just north of Dalbeattie, Would you
sound the 'h' in that?
But it is interesting. I note that when I say "Brixham", I say the "h",
but not in "Wrecsam". In most other place names the h seems to disappear
as well. Thus Birmingum, Cheltenum, Balum, Cozum etc.
